OREGON LIVE.COM, 6/14/2009 by Susan Nielsen for The Oregonian - Democratic lawmakers could balance Oregon's budget, create jobs, improve health care and still manage to lose their lock on Salem. ∴ This would be no small feat, considering the sorry state of the Republican party and the size of the Democrats' voter base. Yet Oregon Democrats have held power long enough to exhibit the four self-defeating tendencies of almost any ruling party:
- Meddle too much in people's private lives.
- Push tax policies toward their unappealing limits.
- Spend more time preserving power than solving problems.
- Kiss off dissenting ideas.
