Corvallis, Oregon—The Oregon State University College Republicans chose to leave the Oregon Federation of College Republicans (OFCR) and have become an independent College Republican Chapter. The Oregon State University College Republicans decided to leave the federation due to leadership failures, corruption within the organization, and lack of financial oversight.
The OFCR executive board, led by the chair, continues to hold secret meetings, fails to send out information in the required time, and doesn’t include all chapters in their decisions. This shows a disregard for the OFCR Constitution and respect for the chapters in the Federation.
OFCR Chair, Caleb Huegel has repeatedly used his position to advocate for Senate Candidate Jason Conger, which explicitly violates the OFCR Constitution. In October he used his position send out information on only one candidate, Jason Conger. He used OFCR funds for himself and other Conger interns to travel to Dorchester. While people should be able to freely support the candidate of their choice they should not use their position to advance a candidate if the rules specifically bar it.
The Oregon Federation of College Republicans has not had a positive income for the last four years. When Caleb Huegel became chair, the Federation had over $6023 and currently it has only $1634. They have spent over $4000 while only bringing in $659. Some of the major expenses include $800 for Chairman’s personal Travel, $618 for a house party at Dorchester, and $316 Fines with the Secretary of State. The donations that the Federation receives rarely trickle down to the Chapters or assisting candidates, but instead go to perks for the executives.
The OSU College Republicans are the largest most active chapter in the state with over 5% of the campus (of 27,000) identifying as a College Republican. We have accomplished a lot with our many activities, forums and candidate events on campus. Our chapter is the strongest financially, bringing in over $17,000 (over 26 times what the Federation made) this year. There is not a doubt that our chapter will thrive without the hindrances of the OFCR and will continue to work to turn Oregon red this November by contributing on several campaigns.

CRNC Presents "Don't Put It On Our Tab: Not Too Big To Fail"
College Republican National Committee (CRNC)
www.crnc.org/petition SIGN NOW!!!
The College Republican National Committee is thrilled to announce the "Don't Put It On Our Tab" debt-awareness initiative! The national debt poses a lethal threat to our economic future, and we're not about to let the Democrats think we are ignorant to that fact. Help the CRNC stand up and speak out for our generation by signing the petition today!
Did you know that the a child born into this world today owes over $117,000 to the DEBT alone? With unemployment rising, 'entitlement' programs collapsing, and debt skyrocketing how are we ever going to pay that back? The answer is through conservative reform. Join our facebook group ( http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dont-Pu... ) to stay informed 24/7 about the debt, what we are doing to combat it, and to examine potential solutions to it! Read More......

OSU College Republicans' 2nd Amendment Week on Campus
From RJ Friedman (via email), 4/13/2010: Free Concealed Handgun License Course
Hey everyone,
Second Amendment Week is off to a good start; we have sold a bunch of raffle tickets, hosted Chris Dudley on campus, been promoted on Lars Larson's show, and just today a lovely article was written about our event by Ben Price in the Barometer (thanks for the publicity)! ∴ Anyways, this is just a reminder that tomorrow at 6pm in Milam Auditorium we will be hosting a FREE for students Concealed Handgun License class / gun safety course. Make sure you bring your friends - I am looking to break last year's state-wide record of 175 attendees at a single CHL class. ∴ Also, don't forget to join the raffle. We are selling tickets all week out in the quad. If you don't want the gun, your dad might for fathers day or something! You will be competing against Chris Dudley, who we got to buy some tickets today!
See you this week,
RJ Friedman

Michael Gerson: Snowe's party of one
WASHINGTON POST, 10/21/2009 by Michael Gerson (Hat tip: John H. Detweiler who says, "Interesting.") - "There are 18 states, as columnist Mark Shields recently pointed out to me, that have gone Democratic in each of the past five presidential elections. Of the 36 senators who represent those states, only two are Republicans. Both are from Maine, one of the last, storm-lashed, surf-pounded footholds of the Yankee GOP. So it is hardly shocking that the lone Republican supporter of Democratic health reform on the Senate Finance Committee should be Maine's Olympia Snowe. ∴ Snowe has taken a beating in the conservative media as part of the "turncoat caucus" and for being a RINO -- Republican in Name Only. But such criticism fails to take a syllogism into account. The GOP can't be a national party without winning in the Northeast; Republicans can't win in the Northeast without ideological heretics; therefore, the GOP will not be a national party without ideological heretics."
Mr. Gerson states why "Non-Maine Republicans object to the Senate Finance bill for three substantive reasons that will be difficult to address without fundamentally changing the direction of reform." He also explains why Sen. Snowe will remain lonely. Read more at the Washington Post... Read More......
