Angry over pay and working conditions, British doctors are threatening to go on strike next week. This is the sort of disaster that can happen only when physicians are government employees. As many as 37,000 "junior doctors, or doctors in training who represent just over half of all doctors in the National Health Service," Reuters reports, have said "they would stage a 24-hour stoppage next week, followed by two further 48-hour strikes."

Obama's private army in health care bill?
Judge Andrew Napolitano discusses a two-page portion of the health care bill dealing with a 6,000 person army of regular and reserve doctors. This part of the bill went without debate before the vote. The judge questions the purpose, the constitutionality of such an army, who wrote the bill and who is responsible for this part of it?

Docs 4 Patient Care to hold a Rally in Salem on Nov. 21st
Docs 4 Patient Care (D4PC) (Hat tip: Linda Bartcher, 11/12/2009) - Practicing US physicians unite to represent the interests and concerns of both patients and doctors in the healthcare reform debate. D4PC endorses the concept of needed healthcare reform, but recognize that it can only be accomplished by proceeding in a cautious and responsible manner. Reform does NOT require the nationalization of the entire American healthcare system.
On Saturday, November 21, 2009, D4PC will hold a "Docs 4 Patient Care Across America Rally" in Salem, Oregon on the Capitol steps. See details here. AFP is supporting the rally.

D4PC: THE 20 BIG LIES IN THE HEALTHCARE REFORM DEBATE
- You can keep your insurance if you like it.
- You can keep your doctor if you wish.
- US healthcare ranks near the bottom of the industrialized world.
- Major cause of bankruptcies is related to medical expenses.
- 14,000 people per day are dying due to lack of medical insurance.
- Most doctors support Obamacare as endorsed by organized medicine (AMA).
- Senior citizens will not lose any Medicare benefits.
- Insurance premiums will be reduced for most Americans.
- This plan will only result in tax increases for the super wealthy.
- Proposed HC bills are budget "neutral" and will not add to the federal deficit.
- There are only 2 choices: the current system or Obamacare.
- The Republicans say NO because they lack and alternative plan.
- The public "strongly" supports Obamacare and public option.
- There will not be any rationing in healthcare.
- The government will not interfere between you and your doctor.
- Most doctors oppose HCR legislation so they can preserve their income.
- This is a "crisis" situation and needs to be passed into law immediately.
- A public option will increase competition and not result in a single payer system.
- Members of Congress will be subject to the same healthcare as the general public.
- Contents of the bill will be available to read at least 72 hours prior to a vote.

Letter: ‘Mad' doctors don't inspire confidence in their stance
CORVALLIS GAZETTE-TIMES/OPINION,9/10/2009 by Jean Nelson - Mad (mad) n. - adj. 1. mentally disturbed or deranged; insane; demented. 2. enraged or irritated; angry. 6. extremely foolish or unwise; imprudent; irrational. Webster's Dictionary (1989). ∴ "Mad" M.D.s? The terminology leaves much to be desired. ∴ We need people who will think through all sides of the health-care issue. ∴ Here are a few problems:

- Health care bills before Congress would drastically increase government control of our economy and our lives! The health-care industry is worth $2.5 trillion a year.
- More than 88 million Americans will lose their private insurance if a government competitor is created. The "government option" would quickly become the only option. (Lewin study.)
- Businesses will be charged $40 to $50 billion a year, resulting in millions of people losing their jobs.
- Congressional Budget Office analysis shows that the plans being proposed won't lower costs, but instead will raise them by $239 billion. HR 3200 creates 53 new programs, offices and bureaucracies.
- Extending coverage to 50 million new people - without new doctors or nurses or equipment or hospitals - will create a scarcity that will lead to rationing, to the disadvantage of those over 65.
- The American people are afraid of current massive government spending with its huge debt. Our nation pays billions in interest each year. A radical and expensive transformation during a major recession, funded by a huge budget deficit, is unwise!
