Immigration crackdown begins with scores arrested

Some 121 people in the U.S. illegally were arrested this past weekend and are currently in the process of being deported back to their home countries, the Department of Homeland Security announced Monday. The arrest of the immigrants marks the first major offensive since a wave of families and unaccompanied children flooded the nation's southern border in 2014, which prompted a renewed debate about U.S. immigration laws and led to accusations from conservatives that the Obama administration has been too weak on protecting the border.

California State Senate OKs health coverage for many immigrants here illegally

The state Senate on Tuesday approved a hotly debated measure that would allow many immigrants in the state illegally to sign up for special healthcare programs that would offer the same benefits as Medi-Cal. --The action comes just days after lawmakers significantly scaled back the plan, which originally would have offered state-subsidized Medi-Cal to people in the country without authorization.

113 Republicans back lawsuit against Obama's immigration actions

Top Republicans in Congress on Monday >entered the court battle over President Obama's latest moves to ease deportations for immigrants living in the country illegally. --Texas and 25 other states have challenged the legality of the unilateral actions, arguing that the president overstepped his executive power with programs halting deportations and granting work permits to certain groups of undocumented immigrants. --The Republicans, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (Va.), are siding squarely with the states, arguing that Obama's action "changes the law and sets a new policy, exceeding the executive’s constitutional authority and disrupting the delicate balance of powers."

Texas Judge Delivers Blistering Rebuke of Obama Administration Immigration Lawyers’ Misbehavior

In an order issued late Tuesday, federal district court Judge Andrew Hanen refused to lift the preliminary injunction he had previously issued stopping the implementation of the immigration amnesty plan announced by President Obama last November.

And in a second order, an obviously infuriated Judge Hanen said that the “attorneys for the Government misrepresented the facts” to the court.

Feds: Kids ‘entitled’ to U.S. education, no matter immigration status

The Department of Education said in a recently released fact sheet that it doesn’t matter if children are illegally in the country — they’re entitled to the same taxpayer-funded public education as everyone else. The declaration comes as states and localities around the nation have sought clarification from the federal agency about what to do with the scores of illegal immigrant youths who’ve crossed the border in recent months, insofar as schooling goes. “All children in the United States are entitled to equal access to a public elementary and secondary education, regardless of their or their parents’ actual or perceived national origin, citizenship or immigration status,” the fact sheet states. “This includes recently arrived unaccompanied children who are in immigration proceedings while residing in local communities with a parent, family member or other appropriate adult sponsor.” Read more at Washington Times. Concha: Two Huge Int’l Crises Can’t Alter Busy Schedule of Fundraiser-in-Chief

Jon Stewart was exactly right during the open of his Monday show this week: The world really has gone mad.  Actually, Monday now looks in retrospect downright tranquil compared to what we’re seeing on our television sets and on our phones this afternoon. A commercial airliner with 295 people on board — including reportedly 23 Americans — are killed after a plane is shot down in Ukraine. Who exactly is responsible (pro-Russian separatists are suspected) has not been confirmed. More importantly, the State Department hasn’t confirmed any Americans were on the flight.  As if this wasn’t enough, a few hours later, reports of an Israeli ground offensive being launched in Gaza broke as well.

Obama exploits immigrant child crisis that he created

The Obama administration’s arrogance and penchant for, charitably speaking, chafing the boundaries of legality, is almost boundless.  But dealing with illegal immigration turns the knob past 11.  Obama’s DHS has renewed DACA, the program that allows illegal immigrant children to stay in the US, sort-of-legally.  DACA created the current child-immigrant crisis, and Obama’s keen to exploit it.

I’ll give Obama credit for one thing:  he didn’t create the immigration problem.  He only made it exponentially worse.  Since passing the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 our government has done little to control our southern border in the last 28 years, and the results are predictable—in fact were predicted by Theodore Hesburgh’s Commission on Immigration Reform.
