Oregon driver card bill headed to the November 2014 ballot

Note: Jeff Kropf was extremely unhappy with the highlighted sentence below. The numbers of verifiable signatures were higher than shown in this report. He asks supporters of the initiative to read the article and comment if they believe the reporting was biased.

Voters will weigh in next year on a bill granting “driver’s cards” to Oregonians unable to prove they are in the U.S. legally. ✧ The Oregon Legislature passed Senate Bill 833 earlier this year, but opponents, led by Oregonians for Immigration Reform [OFIR] and Protect Oregon Driver Licenses [PODL], vowed to refer it to the ballot, hoping voters would overturn the law. ✧ Earlier this month the groups submitted nearly 71,000 signatures to refer the measure to voters and Friday morning Secretary of State Kate Brown announced on Twitter that the referral qualified for the ballot. ✧ The measure barely qualified for the ballot. Of the 70,973 unverified signatures submitted to the Secretary of State’s office, 58,291 were validated. Supporters of the referral needed 58,142 valid signatures to qualify. Sign the Right-To-Work Petition

Dear Concerned American,
They snickered when I said I came to the U.S. Senate to change Congress. ✧ But their laughter stopped when I sponsored the National Right to Work Act to free U.S. workers from forced unionization and break Big Labor's multi-billion dollar political machine forever. ✧ President Barack Obama and Big Labor allies in the Senate are now feverishly scheming to bury the National Right to Work Act without a vote. ✧ So I have a question for you. ✧ Will you be the sledgehammer? Sign the petition now! --Rand Paul

Avoid the Gerrymander, sign the petition (#50 Redistricting)

Printed in 1812, this political cartoon illustrates the electoral districts drawn by the Massachusetts legislature to favor the incumbent Democratic-Republican party candidates of Governor Elbridge Gerry over the Federalists. The cartoon depicts the bizarre shape of a district in Essex County, Massachusetts as a dragon. The painter, Gilbert Stuart, likened it to a salamander, and the editor, Benjamin Russel, advised "Better say a Gerrymander." The name stuck.

"In order to establish an independent, non-partisan commission to carry out reapportionment of legislative districts and to avoid partisan, self-interested action by legislators in drawing legislative district lines, the Constitution of the State of Oregon is amended by repealing section 6, Article IV, and by adopting the following new section 6 in lieu thereof: Read text of the INDEPENDENT REDISTRICTING COMMISSION AMENDMENT (#50)...

Gov. Kulongoski: Sign the Bills

Reject the Denial, Deceit and Delay. Let Voters Decide!
Demand that Our Elected Officials Give Oregonians the Final Say on Tax Proposals

In 2009, our Governor and the Democratic legislative leaders were not interested in hearing what Oregon voters had to say about the decisions they made. Recently, we have seen an unprecedented pattern of:
Denying Voters the Right to Vote on Legislation and Denying Oregon Business Owners the Right to Discuss These Tax Proposals with Employees
    • The legislature refused to refer two tax increase proposals to the voters, which has now forced the voters themselves to put the taxes on the ballot.
    • The legislature passed a law that stops employers from talking to employees about these tax increase measures, or anything political in nature. (SB 519)
Trying to Deceive Voters if their Tax Increases End Up on the Ballot
    • Legislative leaders tried but failed to pass a law that said a yes vote on these tax increase proposals meant no and a no vote meant yes. (HB 2414, -A16 Amendments)
Delaying the Time Citizens Have to Gather Enough Signatures to Let the Voters Decide on New Taxes
    • The Governor has already delayed signing the two tax bills on his desk in an effort to shorten the time citizens have to gather signatures to put the legislatures tax proposals on the ballot.
Whether or not you support the taxes the legislature passed, every Oregon voter should be outraged that our elected officials have tried to stop us from voting on these taxes and to trick us into believing we’ve voted one way, when we meant to vote another way.

The Right to Vote is an American Value.
It’s not a Democrat or Republican Value.

Demand Protection for Your Right to Vote and Decide!
