"We are here to stay."

In a first for either major political party, on this day in 1892 two women -- Theresa Jenkins and Cora Carleton -- attended the Republican National Convention, as alternate delegates from Wyoming. Speaking at the convention, J. Ellen Foster, president of the Women's National Republican Association, declared: "We are here to help you. And we have come to stay."
