Facing Investigations, DOJ Claims the Right to Avoid Investigations

Attorney General Loretta Lynch has no intention of reversing the Justice Department's defiance of the Inspector General Act. She made that clear during a House Judiciary oversight hearing last month. Indeed, her own Office of Legal Counsel has issued a badly flawed opinion that insists DOJ and FBI officials can, at their discretion, withhold information from the Justice Department's inspector general -- the individual tasked by Congress with investigating those very same officials.

I am not a complete stranger to guns. I got my merit badge in riflery when I was a kid and have dropped in on a firing range now and again, learning the basics on Glocks and Berettas. I even went shooting with former Governor Rick Perry of Texas. --But the NRA was always a bridge too far. I interviewed Wayne LaPierre, its CEO, once for PJTV, but I never joined. I'm still a Jewish boy from New York whose mother cringed at buying him a cap gun. It's not in my DNA.

Saturday’s Washington Post front page carries on its recent tradition of fanning racialist flames without substantial regard to fact or context.

The header reads: “Race creeps into debate over stalled nomination for attorney general” and the first graph notes that “African American and other civil rights leaders” are infuriated that Loretta Lynch’s confirmation as attorney general has been held up because of -- you guessed it -- racism. Responding to the president’s dog whistle, National Action network and multimillionaire tax scofflaw Al Sharpton says he’s going on a three-day hunger strike to force consideration of her nomination. Be our guest, Al. (Although after the stomach stapling, there’s not much more to be lost.)

Act of Love: Jeb Bush Pushes Republicans to Cave to Obama Executive Amnesty, Approve Loretta Lynch

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has joined Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid in calling for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to abandon his pre-election promise to fight President Obama’s executive amnesty by holding a vote to confirm U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch as Attorney General. “I think that presidents have the right to pick their team,” Bush said in New Hampshire at an event with about 95 voters and “a horde of media,” according to Time Magazine’s Zeke Miller.
“The longer it takes to confirm her, the longer Eric Holder stays as Attorney General,” Bush said, echoing a talking point that Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has used to justify his planned vote for Lynch–even though a vote for her is a vote for Obama’s executive amnesty.
