What You Need to Know About the House’s Obamacare Lawsuit

The U.S. House of Representatives had its first day in court today after filing a lawsuit against the Obama administration for making unilateral changes to the Affordable Care Act in November. Now, a district judge must rule on whether the case will proceed. --Lawyers representing the Obama administration and the House of Representatives gathered today before U.S. District Judge Rosemary Collyer for the first hearing in a lawsuit challenging President Obama’s changes to the health care law—namely his delay of the employer mandate and the authorization of payments from the Treasury Department to insurance providers.
    “This lawsuit thus raises issues of exceptional importance, not only to plaintiff United States House of Representatives, but also to the entire nation,” said Jonathan Turley, lawyer for the U.S. House of Representatives.

Republicans pass budgets in both House and Senate, trim $5.1 trillion in spending

Remember when a disagreement between Republicans on the budget was “cataclysmic” for GOP claims to governance? Democrats last passed a normal budget resolution six years ago, but Republicans went all of seven days before both chambers finally passed budget resolutions. Our long national nightmare, at least as envisioned by Politico, is over: The Senate passed a Republican-authored budget plan early on Friday that seeks $5.1 trillion in domestic spending cuts over 10 years while boosting military funding. The 52-46 vote on the non-binding budget resolution put Congress on a path to complete its first full budget in six years. It came at the end of a marathon 18-hour session that saw approval of dozens of amendments ranging from Iran sanctions to carbon emissions and immigration policies.

IG let Veterans Affairs officials alter report to absolve agency in Phoenix deaths

Crucial language that the Department of Veterans Affairs inspector general could not “conclusively” prove that delays in care caused patient deaths at a Phoenix hospital was added to its final report after a draft version was sent to agency administrators for comment, the Washington Examiner has learned.  ✧ The single most compelling sentence in the inspector general’s 143-page final report on fraudulent scheduling practices at the Phoenix veterans’ hospital did not appear in the draft version, according to a staff analysis by the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.

0-414 vote: House clobbers budget proposal based on Obama's 2013 plan

NumbersUSA: 10 Sweeping Victories in the House

NumbersUSA Newsletter, 6/3/2011 (Re: IMMIGRATION) - [Excerpts] We didn't have just 1 victory in the House of Representatives this week, BUT 10 VICTORIES IN ALL!!! ∴ In fact, every immigration amendment vote to the 2012 Homeland Security spending bill the past two days went our way. ∴ Rep. Jared Polis of Colorado wrapped and delivered a great present to us when he requested a roll call vote on his amendment to end the 287(g) local enforcement program. His amendment was defeated with broad bi-partisan support with 75% of the votes cast opposing his amendment!

Read Roy [Beck's] detailed descriptions of all the votes.

All in all, the House passed amendments to:
  • set aside funding for Border Patrol to eliminate look-out posts along the U.S.-Mexico border;
  • set aside funding to hire additional Shadow Wolves who track down smugglers along the border;
  • reallocate funds to increase funding for the 287(g) program by nearly 20%;
  • reallocate funding to increase support for the Law Enforcement Support Center;
  • ensure that funding provided in the spending bill is used to enforce existing federal law requiring the detention of illegal aliens who are violent criminals awaiting deportation;
  • withhold funding from cities that have sanctuary city policies in place;
  • prohibit the Administration from offering amnesty through "deferred action";
  • require all DHS contractors to use E-Verify to check new hires; and
  • reallocate funds to build cell towers providing full service along the entire U.S.-Mexico border.
For any of our activists who are concerned about the federal budget and homeland security, all of the amendments are budget neutral and only reallocate funding that was set aside for executive management of the department.

WSJ: Ethics Panel Finding Hints at Guilty Verdict for Rangel

Wall Street Journal, 11/16/2010 - What's the difference between unethical behavior and corruption? --bc
    "...Mr. Chisam [Ethics Committee member acting as prosecutor] said he didn't believe Mr. Rangel's actions were corrupt, but were sloppy and in violation of House ethics rules.

    The formal charges were filed against Mr. Rangel in July, prompting some fellow Democrats to urge him to leave Congress. The accusations aren't viewed by investigators as corruption or profiting from his position, but rather a failure to follow the rules of ethical conduct and accurately report his finances as required.

    Thus, Mr. Rangel is unlikely to face expulsion from the House even with a finding of guilt; the most likely punishment would be a public reprimand."

Boehner: Dems prepare to pass health care takeover without a vote

REPUBLICAN LEADER JOHN BOEHNER'S BLOG, 3/10/2010 - "The twisted scheme by which Democratic leaders plan to bend the rules to ram President Obama’s massive health care legislation through Congress now has a name: the Slaughter Solution. ∴ The Slaughter Solution is a plan by Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY), the Democratic chair of the powerful House Rules Committee and a key ally of Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), to get the health care legislation through the House without an actual vote on the Senate-passed health care bill. You see, Democratic leaders currently lack the votes needed to pass the Senate health care bill through the House. Under Slaughter’s scheme, Democratic leaders will overcome this problem by simply “deeming” the Senate bill passed in the House - without an actual vote by members of the House." Read more at Rep. Boehner's blog... Read More......
