Number of Churches Demolished in Just One Chinese Province Has Reached 1,500

The number of churches targeted for demolition in the Chinese province of Zhejiang has reached 1,500 in just two years, according to ucanews.com.After claiming 2014 to be the worst year for religious persecution in China since the Cultural Revolution, observers in and outside the country say this year saw the situation deteriorate further in 2015. Relations between China's religious groups and the Communist Party have not been this strained since the days of Chairman Mao.

Instagram Deletes Account for Revealing Destroyed Serb Churches in Kosovo

An Instagram account run by Serbian activists who were posting pictures of Christian places of worship in Kosovo which had been demolished by the region's Albanian Muslim majority population has been removed; the site's administration explained that the group had been posting "disturbing images." --Hoping to foil Kosovo's attempt to become a member of UNESCO, ethnically Serbian student activists in the self-proclaimed state created a page on Instagram called "No to Kosovo's Membership in UNESCO."

Unmuzzling the Bully Pulpit

There’s a fight brewing that you should know about. While many Americans today are concerned about losing our present liberties, this fight is about regaining a liberty lost more than 60 years ago.

In the mid-1950’s Lyndon Johnson was deeply involved in a hotly contested senatorial race in Texas. The opposition he faced included two organizations actively supporting Johnson’s opponents. Looking to counter this opposition, he proposed an amendment to the IRS tax code which was under consideration at the time. This amendment, which came to be called ‘The Johnson Amendment’, worked to withhold tax-exempt status from certain organizations that actively supported pending legislation or political candidates.
