Dr. Benjamin Carson's Amazing Speech at the National Prayer Breakfast
Dr. Benjamin Carson, Pediatric Neurosurgeon and Division Head at John Hopkins Hospital, gave a speech that has received criticism from the Left for 'inappropriateness' and raves from many on the Right at the Fellowship Foundation's National Prayer Breakfast held at the White House last week. With President and Mrs. Obama looking on, Dr. Carson used bible references, American history, personal experiences, de Tocqueville and a parable to say that America is on the wrong course. Dr. Carson warned of the dangers of Political Correctness and how it stifles the exchange of ideas, understanding, and freedom of speech. He talked about 'fairness' in taxation through a biblical proportional system. He spoke of the importance of education and how destructive and costly today's dumbed-down education is while describing the successes of his Carson Scholars Fund. He spoke about Health Savings Accounts and how they can improve health and the health care system. In Carson's soft spoken manner he delivered the antithesis of Obama's vision for America. The
Wall Street Journal wrote about the speech under the title, "Ben Carson for President."YouTube Video: Dr. Benjamin Carson's Amazing Speech at the National Prayer Breakfast (27:31)

Words of warning to the West
Hat tip: ACT for America, June 3, 2008
World Net Daily, May 19, 2008 - By Joel Richardson
The United States is about to be tried. At stake are the very freedoms that we all hold so dear. On March 27, the United Nations Human Rights Council voted to adopt resolution 7/19 on "Combating defamation of religions." In one of the most Orwellian resolutions ever passed, this so-called "Human Rights Council" condemns "Islamophobia," which includes any, "attempts to identify Islam with terrorism, violence and human rights violations."Read More......Think about this for a moment. AIM: Save Savage Nation
AIM Urges Action to Save "The Savage Nation" Radio Talk Show
WASHINGTON, December 10, 2007 -- Accuracy in Media editor Cliff Kincaid is urging Americans nationwide to contact the companies which have been identified as dropping advertisements from The Savage Nation radio program featuring Michael Savage. The ultimate question, Kincaid said in a recent column, is: “Will Sharia law or the First Amendment prevail in the U.S.? The fate of Michael Savage will provide the answer.”Read More......
Savage is being accused of making anti-Islam comments and has been found guilty of “hate speech” by a radical Muslim group that calls itself the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). As part of this campaign, CAIR has urged advertisers to drop their support of the show. But experts say that CAIR is attempting to impose Islamic-style Sharia law on the U.S. “This is a religious test being applied to talk show hosts and it is un-American,” Kincaid said.
The companies are Citrix Systems, Inc., Trusted I.D., Office Max, JCPenney, AutoZone, AT&T, Wal-Mart, Universal Orlando Resorts, and Sears. These companies may not understand, Kincaid said, that they are being used and exploited in a campaign to impose Sharia law in the U.S. “They must be urged to reinstate their advertising on The Savage Nation and proclaim their support of the First Amendment,” Kincaid said.
As for CAIR, Kincaid said that the organization “pretends not to understand the American tradition of free expression and political liberty. Its apparent preference for Sharia law in the United States must be exposed and stopped. Those companies which have bowed to its pressure campaign against Michael Savage should be educated -- and quickly -- about the need to resist the imposition of Islamic-style foreign law on America.”
“It is entirely proper for Americans to boycott U.S. products, services and personalities in order to make a political point,” Kincaid went on to say. “But this case involves a special interest group with foreign connections that wants to place its own holy book, which itself contains many hateful utterances, above well-established American traditions and principles. We must do everything in our power to stop them. Our Constitution hangs in the balance.”

PC Education: Columbus
Exploring Columbus By Tom Purcell, Columnist
Published in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review on October 9, 2005
"Dad, why does America celebrate Columbus Day?"Tom Purcell, a free-lance writer, lives in Mt. Lebanon. You can visit him on the Web at www.TomPurcell.com Read More......
"Well, Billy, in 1492, Christopher Columbus sailed from Europe to America and founded the very first settlement in the New World. His arrival marks the beginning of America as we know it."
"But didn't he discover America by accident, dad?"
"Columbus believed the Earth was a sphere. He thought he could reach the Far East by setting off on a westward course. Though he stumbled upon what is now the Bahamas by accident, he was still a great explorer and a great man, Billy."
"A great man, dad, or a racist oppressor?"
"Pardon me, son?"
"When Columbus came to America, he brought with him the greed of the white European males who subsequently colonized America for the dough. They fought and killed the Indigenous Peoples who were already here and took their land and their gold. Columbus eventually died a very rich man."
"Well, Billy, an unfortunate part of human history involves countries invading their neighbors to take control. This has happened in many parts of the world, including Europe, which has a long history of war. But remember that Indigenous Peoples were also prone to war and fighting to expand their control well before Europeans arrived."
"Well, Columbus is also responsible for many germs and diseases that Europeans brought to America, causing untold suffering and death among the people who were here before us."
"Have you been drinking too much caffeine lately, Billy?"
"America's history of environmental destruction can also be laid at Columbus' feet, dad. As soon as the Europeans colonized America's pristine lands, they cut down the trees and plowed up the fields. Can you say soil erosion, dad?"
"Son, did I ever tell you that you take after your mother's side?"
"And what about slavery? It was the Europeans who created a flourishing slave trade in America. They did it to develop the land cheaply, so they could make giant profits. Columbus even made slaves out of some of the Indigenous Peoples who attacked him and his men."
"Son, do you remember where your mother hid the bourbon?"
"I'll tell you another thing, dad. The only reason we even celebrate Columbus Day is because he was Italian, and the day is also a celebration of Italian heritage. When FDR made Columbus Day official in 1934, he did it not just because Columbus discovered the New World, but because Italian immigrants in America represented millions of votes."
"Look, Billy, there are a lot of ways to look at what Christopher Columbus symbolizes. You can focus on the negative attributes, and there are some, or you can do what America has been doing for many years now: focus on the positive."
"Positive, dad?"
"Sure, Billy. Columbus represents the spirit of exploration, the spirit of pushing forward into the great unknown to find greater and better things. This has always been the spirit of America, the land of innovation and new ideas."
"What kind of ideas, dad?"
"How about the ideas of freedom and self-government, Billy? After Columbus opened a gateway to the New World, other European countries established colonies here, too. Eventually, some amazing historical figures would evolve in North America. They would create and fight for a way of life that has proved to be extremely successful - their ideas are still spreading and changing the world for the better."
"Really, dad?"
"Yes, son. The concept of freedom has taken root so solidly in America that people are free to criticize or praise anything, including whether or not Christopher Columbus was a hero or an ogre, or whether or not Columbus Day should still be celebrated in America. Now, do you have any other questions about history?"
"Sure, dad. Was Benjamin Franklin really a predatory male chauvinist womanizer?"

When boys were allowed to be boys...

My son received The Dangerous Book For Boys as a gift. It's a right smart looking tome, with its old-fashioned cloth cover, Warren G. Harding typeface, and heavyweight off-white paper inside. I got to looking around in there.
Hmmm. How to play soccer. Make a paper airplane. Marbling paper.
Marbling paper? This is beginning to sound like the Dangerous Book For Emily Dickinson. It appears to my untrained eye that perhaps the only dangerous thing in this book is nine letters between "The" and "Book." Well, we are not our hearty and hardy forbears, are we? But perhaps we can punch this up a bit. Kick it up a notch. There are plenty of things a boy can do to get himself in real trouble these days. Here's my outline for new version: The Borerline Sociopathic Book for Boys...Hat tip and photo credit: Gerard Vanderleun at American Digest

Vaclav Klaus, president of the Czech Republic, argues in the Financial Times that ambitious environmentalism is the biggest threat to freedom, democracy, the market economy and prosperity.
Mr Klaus writes that “global warming hysteria has become a prime example of the truth versus propaganda problem” and the issue “is more about social than natural sciences and more about man and his freedom than about tenths of a degree Celsius changes in average global temperature.” Read his argument here .

PC TAX: Not what you'd think
Department of Euphemism Abatement: Here is an idea I offer gratis and for nothing to all those socialistically-inclined politicians looking for novel ways to tax people. What I have in mind is a tax on the public utterance of politically correct euphemism. Why not? Great Britain used to tax windows, for heavens sake. Why not euphemism? Like the tax on tobacco, this tax would have the triple advantage that modern bureaucrats look for in their efforts to expropriate your property: it would 1. fill the government's coffers; 2. deprive people of more of their hard-earned dollars, thus increasing their dependence on the state; and 3. reinforce everyone's sense of self-righteousness--though in distinction to the tax on tobacco, a tax on politically correct euphemism would conduce only to one's practice of truthfulness, one's mental as distinct from one's physical well being.
