Poll defies narrative, shows most Americans favor GOP plan to defund Planned Parenthood

A little-noticed poll is challenging the widely touted narrative that most Americans oppose GOP efforts to defund Planned Parenthood. The nationwide poll conducted by the Robert Morris University Polling Institute found that 53.3 percent of those surveyed support moving federal funding from Planned Parenthood to community clinics that do not offer abortions, while 31.5 percent are opposed.

Poll: NRA more popular than Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton

A new poll shows The National Rifle Association is more popular than the Democratic party's two most prominent members, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. --According to the Gallup Poll, 58 percent of Americans surveyed said they have a favorable view of the gun rights group, while 35 percent said they have an unfavorable view.

Contentions: The Role of Rhetoric in Christie’s Rise

The latest Quinnipiac poll showing Chris Christie’s approval rating at 59 percent in New Jersey has been raising eyebrows. As Aaron Blake writes at the Washington Post, “New Jersey is notoriously tough on its politicians – it’s rare that anybody cracks even 50 percent approval – and the state’s Democratic lean makes Christie’s success all the more notable. Despite his tough rhetoric, 54 percent say he’s a leader, while 39 percent (read: Democrats) say he’s a bully.”  ✧ Blake gets one thing backwards, though. Poll Surprises Out-of-Touch Paper

When a New York Times poll found that the number of Americans who think it was right for the United States to go to war in Iraq rose from 35 percent in May to 42 percent in mid-July, rather than promptly report the new poll findings, the paper conducted another poll. As the Times' Janet Elder wrote Sunday, the increased support for the decision to go to war was "counterintuitive" and because it "could not be easily explained, the paper went back and did another poll on the very same subject." June/July Polling: Good News for GOP

GOP.com, July 27, 2007 - Polls from June and July show that the Presidents' approval rating is trending upward while the U.S. Congress, under the control of Democrats, is moving downward rather drastically. President Bush’s approval rating is higher than that of Congress in most recent national polls and Republicans are gaining ground on the economy.

Americans feel the state of the economy is positive, as 54% rate it as very or fairly good (CBS/NYT, 7/17). Also, the GOP is regaining its lead on taxes, with a plurality (46%) saying Republicans would better handle taxes (Battleground, 7/18) and a majority (57%) wanting to make President Bush’s income tax cuts permanent (CNN/Opinion Research, 5/6). Finally, voters oppose Congressional earmarks and pork spending, with 67% telling CBS adding this to legislation is “not acceptable” (6/28). See the poll results here!
