In the wake of the CNBC debate debacle, Joe Scarborough went on an epic rant on liberal media bias on today's Morning Joe. He summed things up this way, in challenging the panel: "you can't do it and nobody here can do it: name the single Republican that has hosted a Sunday show, that has been an anchor of a news network for the big three networks over the past 50 years: you can not do it." --Mark Halperin largely agreed, saying "there's huge liberal media bias."

Is There a Dime’s Worth of Difference between the Two Major Parties?
At last count there were about three dozen potential candidates for president on the Republican side. Although Hillary Clinton is the expected Democratic nominee, should she falter, there are probably about a half dozen people ready to take her place. Without knowing who the candidates will be and without knowing who will win the election, can we say today with some confidence what difference a Republican or a Democratic victory would mean in 2016?
Paul Krugman asked this question the other day in The New York Times. His answer: parties matter a lot more than candidates, and if a Democrat is elected you can be sure of four things...

Are we seeing a war among women?
LOS ANGELES TIMES - Have you heard? The Republican war on women is over! Well, the “Republican war on women” is over. The trope, if not the actual phenomenon, has joined the ranks of retired political euphemisms.
At least according to Republicans.
The GOP victories in the midterm elections have been attributed to any number of factors, Obama’s new status as Undecider-in-Chief high among them. But Republicans have been patting themselves on the back especially hard for finally making headway with the group that purportedly loathed them more than any other: that monolith known as women.
In Texas, working-class Democratic heroine Wendy Davis was slaughtered in her bid for governor against Republican Greg Abbott, getting just 45 percent of women’s votes to her opponent’s 54 percent. In Colorado, Democratic Sen. Mark Udall, whose emphasis on abortion rights got him dubbed Mark Uterus, lost his seat to a Republican challenger framed as staunchly pro-life. Here in Southern California, birth control crusader Sandra Fluke, whose career took off after Rush Limbaugh did her the great favor of calling her a slut, ran for a state senate seat and was trounced by a fellow Democrat. Though women’s health wasn’t a major campaign issue, it’s telling that liberal local voters weren’t sufficiently moved by Fluke’s story to choose her over her more seasoned opponent.
Meanwhile, the GOP made women’s history. Mia Love, a Haitian American Mormon from Utah, will become the first black female Republican ever to serve in Congress.
Elise Stefanik, 30, of New York’s 21st district, became the youngest woman of any party to be elected to Congress.
Iowa elected its first female senator, combat veteran Jodi Ernst, who talked in television ads about growing up castrating pigs.
In the up-and-comer category, there was Saira Blair, an 18-year-old college freshman and self-described “pro-gun, pro-life, fiscal conservative” who ran a campaign out of her dorm room and won a seat in the West Virginia House of Delegates. In other words, ladies, it’s time to lay down our arms. Old white men are not coming after our birth control and legislating our bodies. Eighteen-year-old girls are! So shut up, already! Of course, none of this changes the fact that 64 percent of white men voted for Republicans in last week’s elections. Moreover, nearly two-thirds of eligible voters didn’t bother to show up at the polls at all. Maybe that’s because some of them, including women who once believed Republicans were waging a war on them, were busier ranting at and fighting with each other on social media than actually getting involved with the political process. It could be a coincidence, but I can’t help but notice that as the “war on women” recedes, women seem to be fighting a civil war among themselves.

Question affirmative consent on campus and you risk being called a rape apologist. Chuckle at a celebrity’s overzealous plastic surgery or prolific romantic history and you’re a body shamer or slut shamer. Engage in reasoned debate over women’s sexuality, creative expression or place in the world and you’re likely to be schooled by a sisterhood whose members are admirably passionate but somehow unable to get their heads around the idea that people who agree on the big issues can respectfully disagree on lots of smaller ones.
In other words, you’re likely to encounter progressive women who think that all women, especially all progressive ones, should be a monolithic entity — which is even more exasperating than conservative men who think the same thing. Contact Meghan Daum at mdaum@latimescolumnists.com Read More......

Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin eyed as 2016 GOP debate moderators
(Hat tip: Conservative Byte) Miffed that their candidates were singled out for personal questions or CNN John King’s “This or That,” when he asked candidates quirky questions like “Elvis or Johnny Cash,” GOP insiders tell The Washington Examiner's 'Secrets' writer that they are considering other choices, even a heavyweight panel of radio bigs Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Mark Levin. ✧ They told Secrets that they are eager to bring in questioners who understand Republican policies and beliefs and who have the ability to get candidates to differentiate their positions on core conservative values.

Douglass was a 19th-century abolitionist and a hero to black Americans. ✧ On Sunday, he released a video explaining the move and urging others to join him in "abandoning the government plantation and the party of disappointment."

Romney May Be the End of the Line for the Republican Establishment
September 21, 2012: A Commentary by Scott Rasmussen - Mitt Romney's comments about 47 percent of Americans being dependent on government and locked in to vote for President Obama highlight a fundamental reality in American politics today: The gap between the American people and the political class is bigger than the gap between Republicans and Democrats in Washington, D.C. Ending racial segregation of the military was a Republican policy
By Michael Zak - Chris Matthews has accused Rush Limbaugh of wanting to reverse the racial integration of the U.S. military. Of course, that's nonsense. Rush Limbaugh defended himself well, pointing out that President Truman had to issue an executive order to get around opposition by racist congressional Democrats. Rush also cites the fact that racial segregation of the military had been imposed by a Democrat president, Woodrow Wilson. ✧ However, there is even more to the story. Ending racial segregation of the military was long-standing Republican policy. Read more at Grand Old Partisan...

Emancipation Day
TIMEANDDATE.COM/HOLIDAYS - April 16th is Emancipation Day, which is a legal holiday in the District of Columbia. It will be observed this year on Friday, April 15th in Washington DC (extending TAX DAY to Monday, April 18, 2011). Emancipation Day marks the signing of the Compensated Emancipation Act on April 16, 1862 by President Abraham Lincoln [R-IL].
- Background
Formal slavery was legal from 1619 until 1865 in the area that is now the United States. Many slaves were of African origin and many slave owners were of European descent, although some other groups also had slaves. By 1860, there were about four million slaves in the United States. On April 16, 1862, Abraham Lincoln [R-IL], who was the US president at the time , signed the Compensated Emancipation Act, which freed more than 3000 slaves in the District of Columbia. However, slavery did not officially end in the rest of the United States until after the American Civil War, which lasted from 1861 until 1865.
The Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution [brought forth and fought for by the Republicans] formally ended slavery in the US. It was proposed on January 31, 1865, and ratified by 30 of the then 36 states in the same year. However, it was only ratified in Mississippi in 1995. Slavery and the racial divisions, upon which it was based, have had and continue to have huge implications for individuals and American society as a whole.
Emancipation Day in Washington DC marks the anniversary of the signing of the Compensated Emancipation Act. On January 4, 2005, legislation was signed to make Emancipation Day an official public holiday in the District of Columbia. Elsewhere in the United States, the emancipation of slaves is celebrated in Florida (May 20), Puerto Rico (March 22) and Texas (June 19). [Emphasis added]

The GOP Path to Prosperity
Our budget cuts $6.2 trillion in spending from the president's budget over the next 10 years and puts the nation on track to pay off our national debt.
In an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), writes, "Congress is currently embroiled in a funding fight over how much to spend on less than one-fifth of the federal budget for the next six months. Whether we cut $33 billion or $61 billion—that is, whether we shave 2% or 4% off of this year's deficit—is important. It's a sign that the election did in fact change the debate in Washington from how much we should spend to how much spending we should cut." Read more at WSJ...

Candidate Delia Lopez: Common sense on the environment
DELIA LOPEZ, 2010 Republican Candidate for Oregon's Third Congressional District, POSITIONS/ENVIRONMENT - "Look into the spotted owl and many other of the birds that have been listed on the threatened or endangered species list. Years ago I cut out and copied newspaper articles for then president Clinton and 2 other of the top EPA and Forest Service heads. They were finding spotted owls emaciated in surprising numbers! There were at least 5 articles where they were found dead and autopsy showed they starved. There were articles stating they found spotted owls nesting in 30 year old trees, they found a nest in a Roseburg K-Mart sign! I had them nesting in my back yard (they have a distinctive whoo) Also an article on the effective rodenticide the federal forest department had been using for 26 years!! It stopped rodents from killing the small newly planted trees, and how effective it was at killing the rodents. I made 3 copies of each and sent them off with a letter. I got a BS thank you letter back from Clinton. They are still using the rodenticide! The spotted owls numbers are still declining. You will not survive without food, spotted owls eat rodents, rodenticides kill rodents. Birds that have no food, do not reproduce, they die. Shutting down the forests to logging has not helped the Spotted Owls nor improved the heath of our forests." Read more on the environment, forest health, jobs, carbon sequestering and more.

Sarah Palin to visit Margaret Thatcher
POLITICO, 6/14/2010 (Hat tip: Linda Weimer) - Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is planning a trip to London and a visit with former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, her staff has confirmed to POLITICO. ∴ In a Facebook post scheduled to go up Monday, Palin writes: “I have received an invitation for a visit to London, and part of that invitation included the offer of arranging a meeting between myself and one of my political heroines, the ‘Iron Lady,’ Margaret Thatcher.”
“I would love to meet her and hope I'll be able to arrange the trip in the future,” Palin writes of the former conservative leader whom the former governor frequently cites in speeches.
“As I wrote last year when I offered her birthday wishes, Baroness Thatcher’s life and career serve as a blueprint for overcoming the odds and challenging the ‘status quo,'” Palin continues. “She started life as a grocer's daughter from Grantham and rose to become Prime Minister — all by her own merit and hard work. I cherish her example and will always count her as one of my role models. Her friendship with my other political hero, Ronald Reagan, exemplified the Special Relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom.”
The news of a possible trip was first reported by London’s Daily Mail, which wrote on Sunday that Thatcher has agreed to the visit.
Palin recently touted Thatcher during a speech at a fundraising breakfast for the Susan B. Anthony List in Washington — a speech in which Palin highlighted many of the “mama grizzlies” she believes are reshaping the Republican Party.
“Mrs. Thatcher, she never set out to be a woman prime minister, just a prime minister,” Palin said. “Mrs. Thatcher used to say about politics ‘You want something said, ask a man. You want something done, ask a woman.’” Read More......
