This post is from an older email that first circulated in 2008 and has come around again. The photos (below the fold) are beautiful and they do tell a story. Snopes rates the email on ANWR as "MULTIPLE" (containing true and false claims). However, are we energy independent yet? No. Have we gained on reducing our dependence on foreign oil? Not substantially, if at all. Should the debate on drilling in ANWR be resumed? There is some good current information at www.anwr.org.--bc

"Unbelievable! This is the best presentation on ANWR I have seen. I would like to add a little more information. A new pipeline across Alaska isn't required since the location for drilling in ANWR is about 70 miles from the North Slope Prudhoe Bay pipeline [Trans Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS)] where it would be connected. Second the wildlife love the pipeline since it is heated and provides a shelter during the worst times during the winter."

ANWR = Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

The following pictures are what the Democrats, Liberals and "Greens" show you when they talk about ANWR... and they are right, these are photographs of ANWR.



Isn't ANWR beautiful? Why should we drill here (and destroy) this beautiful place? Well, that's not exactly the truth. Do you remember the map showing the proposed drilling area in the ANWR Coastal Plain? Do the photos above look like a coastal plain to you? What's going on here? The answer is simple. The photos above do NOT show where the plan proposes to drill!

As you can see(above), the proposed drilling area is a barren wasteland. Oh, and they say that they are concerned about the effect on the local wildlife?

Below is a photo (shot during the summer) of the "depleted wildlife" situation created by drilling around Prudhoe Bay. Do you think the caribou really HATE that drilling?

Hey, this bear seems to really HATE the pipeline near Prudhoe Bay, which accounts for 17% of U.S. Domestic oil production


Now, why do you think that the Democrats are lying about ANWR? Remember when Al Gore said that the government should work to artificially raise gas prices to $5.00 a gallon? Well, Al Gore and his fellow Democrats have almost reached their goal!

Will you risk it all?

And while it’s true, that notion feels very much like the end of something… British rule, oppression, being subjects to a king instead of to one another. But when you stop and think about it, the 4th of July wasn’t an ending at all—it was just the beginning.

While we declared our Independence on July 4th, 1776, we had to keep fighting to defend that declaration until 1783, over seven years of bloody struggle and ultimate sacrifice. And while those who fought in the Revolutionary War knew what they were dying to protect, “we the people” didn’t adopt our Constitution until 1787, more than 11 years after those 56 men gathered in a room and signed their name to a piece of parchment that said there’s a better way for men and women to live:

In freedom.

The second sentence of the Declaration of Independence reads:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
The fight to live up to those 36 words continues to this day, as an ever expanding government is threatening to suppress the very freedoms our founders fought for. And while July 4th, 1776 was a major victory, let the date serve not merely as a day to remember how it all started - but also that freedom is fragile and vigilance is needed to preserve and protect it. Each and every one of us is responsible to make sure that freedom doesn't vanish on our watch. This 4th of July, think about what the founders risked to make sure they and future generations lived free - their lives, the fortunes, and their sacred honor. And ask yourself, are you willing to do the same?

Kill Bill(s)

June 15, 2007: In an online letter the Center for Individual Freedom's Immigration Watch congratulated American activists of all stripes who made their wishes known to the U.S. Congress regarding the failed immigration reform bill, S 1348. "You are to be commended for a level and intensity of political activism that is rarely exercised in this country." Likewise, NumbersUSA thanked the public while encouraging continued action next week.

Polster Scott Rasmussen said, "The immigration bill failed because a broad cross-section of the American people are opposed to it." Recent Rasmussen polls show that:

• 20 Percent of American voters want Congress to try and pass the immigration reform bill that failed in the Senate last week.
• Sixty-nine percent support an approach that focuses "exclusively on securing the border and reducing illegal immigration.

Despite the overwhelming message from the American people, President Bush and certain members of the Senate are determined to bring it up again next week and to pass it. CFIF responded,

The new grand deception is that the bill can be fixed with amendments. It cannot. It could be replaced with what the American people want, but it cannot be fixed with amendments. You've done it once and you can do it again...this time perhaps with even greater numbers and even more forceful messages.

But amnesty, as a vast number of American's see this immigration reform bill, is not the only critical legislation on the table as debate picks up on an energy bill with the left and environmentalists frustrating the most obvious solutions to move America toward energy independence. Scott at Town Commons in a piece titled, "Democrats Prepare to Pay Back the Far Left," maintains,

In any sane world, we would be drilling for oil in Alaska and in the Gulf of Mexico, and we would be fast tracking the creation of new atomic power plants. Additionally, we would be developing new refineries to lower the cost of gas even as we seek alternative fuels. Yet every attempt to do any of these things is invariably fought tooth and nail by far left radical environmentalists opposed to almost any human development. Their detrimental effect on America is very high indeed - and, at times, devastating.

CFIF: "Well, it used to be a representative government. It can be again. Activists have now learned how to make it so." Will there be more cases where the people stand up and demand what they want? Time will tell.

We Can Have Green Conservatism -- And We Should
