Sarah Palin to visit Margaret Thatcher
POLITICO, 6/14/2010 (Hat tip: Linda Weimer) - Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is planning a trip to London and a visit with former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, her staff has confirmed to POLITICO. ∴ In a Facebook post scheduled to go up Monday, Palin writes: “I have received an invitation for a visit to London, and part of that invitation included the offer of arranging a meeting between myself and one of my political heroines, the ‘Iron Lady,’ Margaret Thatcher.”
“I would love to meet her and hope I'll be able to arrange the trip in the future,” Palin writes of the former conservative leader whom the former governor frequently cites in speeches.
“As I wrote last year when I offered her birthday wishes, Baroness Thatcher’s life and career serve as a blueprint for overcoming the odds and challenging the ‘status quo,'” Palin continues. “She started life as a grocer's daughter from Grantham and rose to become Prime Minister — all by her own merit and hard work. I cherish her example and will always count her as one of my role models. Her friendship with my other political hero, Ronald Reagan, exemplified the Special Relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom.”
The news of a possible trip was first reported by London’s Daily Mail, which wrote on Sunday that Thatcher has agreed to the visit.
Palin recently touted Thatcher during a speech at a fundraising breakfast for the Susan B. Anthony List in Washington — a speech in which Palin highlighted many of the “mama grizzlies” she believes are reshaping the Republican Party.
“Mrs. Thatcher, she never set out to be a woman prime minister, just a prime minister,” Palin said. “Mrs. Thatcher used to say about politics ‘You want something said, ask a man. You want something done, ask a woman.’” Read More......

WSJ: Obama, Republicans Spar at House GOP Event
WALL STREET JOURNAL, 1/29/2010 BY GREG HITT - BALTIMORE—President Barack Obama sparred Friday with House Republicans in an unusual 90-minute dialogue that exemplified the political gridlock prevailing in the nation's capital. ∴ At the House Republicans' annual issues retreat, Mr. Obama, at times combative and confident, challenged Republicans to find ways to work with his administration and Democrats in Congress and set aside the rhetoric that defined much of the political debate of the past year. ∴ President Obama sparred with House Republicans over job growth, the deficit and health care Friday. But was the unusual dialog a case of talking to each other or past each other? Read more at WSJ...

The demise of the dollar
THE INDEPENDENT (UK), 10/6/2009 by Robert Fisk (Hat tip: Glenn Beck) - In a graphic illustration of the new world order, Arab states have launched secret moves with China, Russia and France to stop using the US currency for oil trading. ∴ In the most profound financial change in recent Middle East history, Gulf Arabs are planning – along with China, Russia, Japan and France – to end dollar dealings for oil, moving instead to a basket of currencies including the Japanese yen and Chinese yuan, the euro, gold and a new, unified currency planned for nations in the Gulf Co-operation Council, including Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait and Qatar. ∴ Secret meetings have already been held by finance ministers and central bank governors in Russia, China, Japan and Brazil to work on the scheme, which will mean that oil will no longer be priced in dollars. ∴ The plans, confirmed to The Independent by both Gulf Arab and Chinese banking sources in Hong Kong, may help to explain the sudden rise in gold prices, but it also augurs an extraordinary transition from dollar markets within nine years.
