France: Exodus of 10,000 millionaires amid rising Muslim tensions

BREAKING NEWS: Unarmed US Marines 'take down' gunman onboard a high-speed train

A group of unarmed US Marines on board a high-speed train between Amsterdam and Paris foiled a terrorist attack after a gunman opened fire with an assault rifle, wounding three people. The 26-year-old Moroccan national, who was known to security services, came out of the toilet brandishing the gun and opened fire. Fortunately, three US Marines were nearby and overpowered him before he could massacre passengers.

French heroine who saved 102 Allied pilots from the Nazis, dies aged 105

Andree Peel, who was known as Agent Rose, helped 102 British and American pilots escape from her native France. ∴ The resistance fighter was imprisoned in two concentration camps but was liberated and went on to settle in Long Ashton, Bristol, after the war. ∴ She was the most highly decorated woman to survive the conflict and was awarded the Legion d'Honneur by her brother, General Maurice Virot. THE INDEPENDENT (UK), 10/6/2009 by Robert Fisk (Hat tip: Glenn Beck) - In a graphic illustration of the new world order, Arab states have launched secret moves with China, Russia and France to stop using the US currency for oil trading. ∴ In the most profound financial change in recent Middle East history, Gulf Arabs are planning – along with China, Russia, Japan and France – to end dollar dealings for oil, moving instead to a basket of currencies including the Japanese yen and Chinese yuan, the euro, gold and a new, unified currency planned for nations in the Gulf Co-operation Council, including Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait and Qatar. ∴ Secret meetings have already been held by finance ministers and central bank governors in Russia, China, Japan and Brazil to work on the scheme, which will mean that oil will no longer be priced in dollars. ∴ The plans, confirmed to The Independent by both Gulf Arab and Chinese banking sources in Hong Kong, may help to explain the sudden rise in gold prices, but it also augurs an extraordinary transition from dollar markets within nine years. Recession Ends in France, Without Massive and Costly U.S.-Style Stimulus Package

Many are hoping that the election of Nicolas Sarkozy as president of France on Sunday marked yet another triumph of free markets over a West European-style socialism on its last ideological legs. With Sarkozy garnering 53% of the vote versus Socialist candidate Ségolène Royal's 47%, and with 85% of eligible French voters casting their votes, there can be little doubt Sarkozy won a mandate for change in France. "Rupture" became a virtual slogan for his campaign. Sarkozy has pledged to act "very fast" and already has named François Fillon, the mastermind of his election victory, as his prime minister.
