Roseburg Rally Goes Viral, Patriots Standing Nationwide

It’s been roughly 36 hours since a patriot in Oregon—local activist Casey Runyan—posted on Facebook to say that “on Friday, we assemble.” Runyan’s words were a direct call to patriots in the Pacific NW to stand with citizens in Roseburg who have already made it clear that Obama is not welcome there for his planned visit on Friday. The call was regional…but the answer was national. The rally went viral. Not even the mainstream Obama cheering section can ignore it anymore.

Kim Davis and the Roots of Protestant Resistance to Civil Authority

Before a judge today ordered her release, Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee announced their plans to meet with Kentucky clerk Kim Davis whose refusal to worship at the First Church of Justice Kennedy and sign her name to same-sex marriage licenses landed her in jail over the Labor Day weekend. Had her stand happened a few short centuries ago, Huckabee and Cruz would likely have been joined by a few notable figures from Christian history — men like Martin Luther, John Calvin, and John Knox — the men who first put the “protest” in “Protestant.”

Di Leo: Would You Like Fries With That Demonstration?

On a cool May morning, as McDonalds’ shareholders met to determine the fast food giant’s future course, some 2000 protesters, hailing from as far as Kansas City and New York, descended upon them to present a list of demands. Raise the starting wage to $15/hour, they threatened, lest the company be forever branded with such monikers as Exploiter, Villain, Robber Baron and Tyrant!

The Chicago Tribune, newspaper of record in the blighted metro area that McDonald’s calls home, was happy to give front page coverage to these protesters, telling their tale and helpfully spinning the story as favorably for the protestors as any could hope. The days of restricting opinion to the Opinion page are long gone indeed.

Oregon Tea Party Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Oregon Tea Party Reacts To Visions Of Hatred,Violence And Racism From Leftist Counter Protesters, April 18, 2011, PORTLAND, OR- In response to angry, violent and anti-American rhetoric by leftist extremists on Friday, Oregon Tea Party leadership asks all responsible political and civic leaders to join in condemning both the messages and their manner of expression. ∴ Oregon Tea Party members were particularly dismayed by the videos of actual counter protesters that have made national news, including the following links found at www.youtube.com: [viewer discretion advised]

Socialsts/Communists Give Middle Finger and Hurl F-Bomb At Singing of National Anthem

Left Taunts, Harasses and Hurls Racial Insults at African American Man Attending TEA Party

"I Wipe My *** With the American Flag": The New Civility of the Left on Display

"Take Your Constitution and Shove It Up Your ***!"

“Silence is consent,” said John Kuzmanich, Oregon Tea Party PAC Chairman. “I can’t believe these videos have made it all over huge national websites like www.breitbart.tv, www.theblaze.com and www.redstate.com, but the local media are completely silent. This is nothing short of journalistic malpractice by The Oregonian and local television news.”

Jeff Reynolds, Chairman of the Multnomah County Republican Party, observed, “I found it very odd that the only interviews I did were KBOO and KEX. KATU had a news truck there, but it left before the event even began. KGW has a studio right there in the square, but they never showed up to report.”

Oregon Tea Party calls on Portland Mayor Sam Adams and Governor John Kitzhaber, and the Senate and House leadership of both parties, to join us in condemning and repudiating these messages. We also call on the local media to break their silence on the topic and condemn these messages on their editorial pages. Additionally, we call on the Chairs of the State Democrat and Republican Parties to issue public statements condemning such hate speech.

In God We Trust

Do you believe that our national motto should be "in God we Trust"? Lets WRITE IT ON THE BACK OF OUR ENVELOPES or on the front. WE THINK THIS IS A GREAT IDEA. We'll put it on bills, payments and personal mail. We're going to get a stamp made just for this purpose.∴ You may have heard in the news that a couple of Post Offices in Texas have been forced to take down small posters that say ''IN GOD WE TRUST,' opponents say the law is being violated. We heard proposed on a radio show, that we should all write ' IN GOD WE TRUST' on the back of all our mail. After all, that's our National Motto, and on all the money we use to buy stamps. ∴ We think it's a wonderful idea. And we hope you'll send this on to all your friends and encourage them to do it, too! --Charles & Jean Read More......

Laura's Appeal: 'Don't Fire on Your People'

Voice of America News, September 26, 2007 - Paula Wolfson wrote,
The first lady sat down for the interview as people in Rangoon reported clashes between protesters and police. Mrs. Bush urged Burma's [Burma/Myanmar] military government to remember that innocent lives are at stake.

"I want to say to the armed guards and to the soldiers: Don't fire on your people," she said. "Don't fire on your neighbors. Join this movement."

The first lady said she is awed by the courage of the Burmese people. She spoke of the Buddhist monks who have been leading the protests, which began after the government doubled fuel prices, and have grown into the largest challenge to the military leaders in 20 years, amid calls for freedom and democracy. Mrs. Bush said she is not surprised that the monks have been at the forefront of the protests.

"Well, I think they are the ones who can take the lead, because they are revered, and because Buddhist monks are known for peace, for wanting peace," she said. "So, I think it is very, very important. Their addition to the protests has made a huge difference, and it is one of the reasons why the world has paid a lot of attention."

The Irrawaddy website shows a video grab of detained democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi (center-light-coloured top) paying respects to monks at the gates of her home in Rangoon, 22 Sep 2007.

She said she was moved by a tiny picture she saw of Aung San Suu Kyi - the Burmese pro-democracy leader and Nobel Peace prize laureate - who came to the gate of her home, where she is under house arrest to greet monks who were allowed to pass by there earlier this week. Mrs. Bush spoke of Aung San Suu Kyi's long years under house arrest, noting her husband died in Britain, while she was confined to her home in Rangoon.

"All of that really shows the sacrifice that she is making for the people of Burma and the hopes that she has and the dreams that she has, to have free and democratic Burma that can join the rest of the world, and can flourish with all the resources Burma has," Mrs. Bush said.

She said Aung San Suu Kyi shows the power of women to make a difference in the world. She said that, as countries emerge from oppression, women can help lead the way. She said she saw it first when she traveled to Afghanistan following the ouster of the Taleban in 2001.

"All of the things we saw in Afghanistan made me then move on to look at other countries around the world, and, particularly, at the way women are treated in some of these countries," she said. "And, these countries can't succeed, unless everyone - both men and women - has a chance to contribute to their society."

She said, in Afghanistan and in Burma, despite enormous problems, there is hope. She said she sees it in the faces of the Burmese who are taking to the streets to push their demand for freedom.

"There is hope - absolutely, there is hope for Burma," Mrs. Bush said. "And, I think that is one of the feelings we all get as we look at these images - this very cautious hope that, this time, the people have turned a page."

Mrs. Bush said the Burmese have told the world they can no longer tolerate oppression, and the nation must move on.
