U of Oregon Debates Removing MLK Quote For Not Being Inclusive Enough

Student leaders at the University of Oregon debated removing a quote from Martin Luther King Jr. from its student center, arguing that the quote was not inclusive enough for modern understandings of diversity. Oregon's Erb Memorial Union, which is currently under renovation, had the following famous King quote on the wall: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. I have a dream..."

Do Liberals Know The History Of Their Own Ideas?

Given liberal-progressive movement’s obsession with youth and the minds of the young and its disdain for tradition, it should not surprise us that American progressives often treat history as an afterthought – a topic to be consulted only when one needs usable examples to advance a particular point for the duration of a particular argument. What is the "LEADER" trying to tell us?

Via email (Hat tip: Jerry & Cruz Jackson)
“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government can not pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America ’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.”

TAS: Justice Loses Its Stars and Stripes

(Hat tip: Carolyn Webb) There is an email circulating that perhaps originated from a mid July article by The Prowler, a contributing writer at The American Spectator. The Prowler posted the following:
What's black and white and "red" all over? The Department of Justice's newly designed website. Gone are the standard red, white, and blue motifs, replaced by an all-black backdrop. And prominently placed on virtually every page of the site is a quote credited to a man who facilitated a greater role for socialists and communists at the U.N., and the global "workers rights movement."
What is the quote and who wrote it? Read the rest at The American Spectator...

Madison in Federalist 57

From We Still Hold These Thruths: Rediscovering Our Principles, Reclaiming Our Future by Matthew Spalding...
If the American people, Madison wrote in Federalist 57, “shall ever be so far debased as to tolerate a law not obligatory on the legislature, as well as on the people, the people will be prepared to tolerate any thing but liberty.”
What did our legislators just do in passing the health care bill? Next Tea Party is April 15th (see Events Calendar)! Read More......
