Top MIT scientist: Newest UN climate report is ‘hilariously’ flawed

“I think that the latest IPCC report has truly sunk to level of hilarious incoherence,” Dr. Richard Lindzen told Climate Depot, a global warming skeptic news site. “They are proclaiming increased confidence in their models as the discrepancies between their models and observations increase.” Read more at the Daily Caller...

From Marc Morano at Climate Depot via Australia
Even if the IPCC predictions were 100% correct... why should anyone trust them? ✧ The AGW advocates delight in making shrill claims about sceptics being funded by “Big Oil”, which the advocates believe is a perfectly good reason to dismiss much, if not all, of what they say as compromised. But what’s the difference with the IPCC? It is an organisation that is funded by “Big Green”, comprised of governments desperate to appear politically correct, vested interests from academia and business, and environmental activist groups. What goes for one, goes for the other. By analogy, anything the IPCC says must be regarded as equally compromised. ✧ The only differences, as far as I can see, are that:
    Big Green funds the AGW advocates a thousand dollars for every one dollar funding sceptics;
the IPCC shies away from transparency and open debate, whereas sceptics encourage it.

Is this finally proof we're NOT causing global warming?

The whole of the Earth heated up in medieval times without human CO2 emissions, says new study
  • Evidence was found in a rare mineral that records global temperatures
  • Warming was global and NOT limited to Europe
  • Throws doubt on orthodoxies around 'global warming'

Obama Science Czar Led UN Effort to Hide Proceedings, Subvert FOIA, Records Indicate

10/17/2011 - CEI Files FOIA Request Seeking Public Records on Climate Change Policies
Washington, D.C., October 17, 2011 - The Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request today with the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), run by controversial White House Science Adviser (and former Mitt Romney climate adviser) John Holdren. The FOIA request seeks records involving an apparently co-ordinated effort between OSTP and the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to subvert and circumvent U.S. law. ✧ Specifically, CEI's FOIA request seeks details of the Obama Administration's involvement in a UN IPCC plan to hide official online correspondence in non-governmental accounts. The express purpose of creating a non-government web-site "cloud" communications system was to avoid national transparency laws, such as the U. S. FOIA. However, with OSTP having taken over the lead U.S. role in the IPCC in 2009, this also implicates the Presidential Records Act of 1978 (PRA). Read more at CEI...

Bonn talks heat up, but where is the warming?

FORBES, 6/8/2011 by James M. Taylor (Heartland Institute) - Global greenhouse gas emissions have risen even faster during the past decade than predicted by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and other international agencies. According to alarmist groups, this proves global warming is much worse than previously feared. The increase in emissions “should shock even the most jaded negotiators” at international climate talks currently taking place in Bonn, Germany, the UK Guardian reports. But there’s only one problem with this storyline; global temperatures have not increased at all during the past decade. Read more at Forbes... Read More......

IPCC Official: “Climate Policy Is Redistributing The World’s Wealth”

WATTS UP WITH THAT, 11/18/2010 by Anthony Watts - Neue Zürcher Zeitung, 14 November 2010
"Climate policy has almost nothing to do anymore with environmental protection, says the German economist and IPCC official Ottmar Edenhofer. The next world climate summit in Cancun is actually an economy summit during which the distribution of the world’s resources will be negotiated." – Ottmar Edenhofer
For those who may not know, Ottmar Edenhofer is the co-chair of the IPCC Working Group III. Read more at WUWT... Read More......

Heartland Institute: Audit of IPCC Procedures ‘a Vindication’ but ‘Too Modest'

The Amsterdam-based InterAcademy Council (IAC), a scientific body asked to audit UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) procedures, has determined the IPCC has improperly crossed the line of policy advocacy, is not transparent enough, is prone to conflicts of interest, and has made numerous alarmist assertions that are not supported by the scientific record. IAC recommends structural reforms to fix IPCC’s flaws before IPCC’s next report, due in 2014.

The Heartland Institute for years has led criticism of the IPCC’s determination to put politics over scientific rigor to promote the dubious theory of man-made global warming. Heartland has hosted four international climate conferences, established the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC), and produced and distributed millions of copies of reports, videos and books – including the 800-page Climate Change Reconsidered, the only comprehensive critique of the latest IPCC report, published in 2009.

U.N.'s Global Warming Report Under Fresh Attack for Rainforest Claims

FOXNews.com, 1/28/2010 by Gene J. Koprowski - [EXCERPT] The [4th] IPCC report states that "up to 40 percent of the Amazonian forests could react drastically to even a slight reduction in precipitation" -- highlighting the threat climate change poses to the Earth. The report goes on to say that "it is more probable that forests will be replaced by ecosystems ... such as tropical savannas." ∴ But it has now been revealed that the claim was based on a WWF [World Wildlife Federation] study titled "Global Review of Forest Fires," a paper barely related to the Amazon rainforest that was written "to secure essential policy reform at national and international level to provide a legislative and economic base for controlling harmful anthropogenic forest fires." Obama's EPA Quashes Climate Change Science

POWERLINE, 6/28/2009 by John Hinderaker - The Competitive Enterprise Institute has obtained an EPA study of the "endangerment" to human well-being ostensibly caused by carbon dioxide emissions, together with a set of EPA emails indicating that the study, which concludes that carbon dioxide is not a significant cause of climate change, was suppressed by the EPA for political reasons. No consensus on IPCC's level of ignorance

BBC News, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 - VIEWPOINT By John Christy, Professor of Atmospheric Science, University of Alabama (Hat tip: John D.)

As the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) puts the finishing touches to its final report of the year, two of its senior scientists look at what the panel is and how well it works. Here, a view from a leading researcher into temperature change.

The IPCC is a framework around which hundreds of scientists and other participants are organised to mine the panoply of climate change literature to produce a synthesis of the most important and relevant findings.

These findings are published every few years to help policymakers keep tabs on where the participants chosen for the IPCC believe the Earth's climate has been, where it is going, and what might be done to adapt to and/or even adjust the predicted outcome.

While most participants are scientists and bring the aura of objectivity, there are two things to note:
- this is a political process to some extent (anytime governments are involved it ends up that way)
-scientists are mere mortals casting their gaze on a system so complex we cannot precisely predict its future state even five days ahead

The political process begins with the selection of the Lead Authors because they are nominated by their own governments. Thus at the outset, the political apparatus of the member nations has a role in pre-selecting the main participants.
But, it may go further. Continued at BBC News...
